PHE-Medicaid

End of PHE – Apple Health (Medicaid) Changes

The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) ended on May 11. This change impacts eligibility for Medicaid coverage, as the Washington State Health Care Authority will no longer automatically extend Apple Health plans.

During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE), the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) extended coverage for all Apple Health clients. With the end of the PHE and the passing of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, the HCA has resumed redetermination efforts and reinstated it’s pre-PHE process, including requiring annual proof of Apple Health (Medicaid) eligibility starting with individuals with a renewal/redetermination date of April 1, 2023. The HCA will spend the next 12 months re-certifying clients’ eligibility for Apple Health based on each individual client’s renewal date.

If you’re an Apple Health client, you will need to take action on renewal notices received starting April 1, 2023.
