Janelle Lee, MD

Janelle was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and could not be more thrilled to be back home. Her parents both immigrated from Hong Kong and she spent much of her childhood helping them run a small bakery in the International District of Seattle which became a staple in the community for nearly 40 years.

While she majored in Engineering at the University of Washington and followed her career in aerospace to sunny California, she later volunteered to tutor under-represented students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math realizing that greater socioeconomic challenges were a barrier to their success. It was at this time she also began leading movement classes for women who held onto significant trauma histories and learned to use her voice to guide her students on a healing path. These experiences collided with significant life events which triggered her to think about the root cause of the societal issues she was witnessing which ultimately sparked a major career transition.

Her budding passion for community medicine blossomed while volunteering with Planned Parenthood and the Global Medical Brigades. While she continued pipeline work with middle school students during her post-baccalaureate studies, it was her global and rural health experiences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson that helped her realize the immense health disparities that existed in rural, immigrant and homeless communities. This fueled her desire to practice full-spectrum family medicine with obstetrics, so that she could bring a wide variety of clinical skills to the populations that need it most.

She feels incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to train with the Swedish Cherry Hill Rural Training Track and to be a part of a network of diverse, socially conscious, community-minded doctors who are devoted to disrupting the system to improve access and quality of care for the most vulnerable populations.

Thank you for entrusting me with your care.
