Karissa hails from Twisp, Wash., and worked in a variety of non-profits and social work settings prior to nursing school. She developed a pilot program training women for construction careers in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. She also managed a small social services agency, Room One, which offered domestic violence survivor support, family planning, and many other services.
After nursing school, Karissa joined an internal medicine clinic in Alaska as part of an infectious disease management team, followed by a brief stint at Olympic Medical Center in the Medical/Surgical unit. More recently, she worked as the Clallam County Public Health Nurse Supervisor throughout the pandemic, coordinating the distribution of supplies, vaccines, and tests. She also managed outbreak response and maintained oversight of Public Health programming.
Karissa is grateful to have the opportunity to spend time with patients helping them learn to manage and heal their wounds.
In her off time, she loves spending time with her daughters and husband outdoors, playing on the beach, camping, hiking in the Olympic National Park (as much as one can with little kids in tow), and biking on the Olympic Discovery Trail. She loves to learn new things; if she doesn’t know the answer to a question, she’ll find one.
