Alex Soos (she/her) was born and raised in Stevensville, Michigan. She spent Michigan summers either on Lake Michigan or raising animals to show at the youth fair. She stayed in Michigan and completed all of her studies at the University of Michigan, where she spent time researching addiction. She earned a BS in Neuroscience and Ecology.
After college, she spent two years in Mozambique working as a high school science teacher for the Peace Corps. When she returned to Michigan, she spent another two years working as a CNA on the Medical-Oncology unit and at the nearby rehabilitation facility. Working as a CNA, she had the privilege of sitting with patients and hearing at length their healthcare experiences, ultimately solidifying her desire to apply to medical school.
Returning to the University of Michigan, she completed both her MD and MPH with the goal of working in primary care. She appreciated working with the student-run free clinic and the street outreach team where the emphasis was on reducing barriers to healthcare. She completed a rotation out in rural Iowa at a 25-bed hospital where she saw Family Medicine providers doing everything from C-sections to triaging patients in the Emergency Room. She was inspired by how Family Medicine could adapt and fill a gap in a community, especially as rural health systems face closures across the country.
Alex was grateful for her time in Seattle with her co-residents, working in so many different parts of the city. Now she’s ready to be a part of the Port Angeles community. She enjoys the variety of conditions Family Medicine sees including obstetrics, women’s health, addiction medicine, and procedures. She’s looking forward to finding some old growth, learning to love swimming, and knitting on the porch.
