NOHN Receives Grant for Mobile Dental Services

North Olympic Healthcare Network (NOHN) is thrilled and thankful to be a recipient of funding from First Fed Foundation as part of the Foundation’s fall grant cycle. Now in its 10th year, First Fed Foundation’s Community Development grant program has awarded more than $7.3 million to nonprofits, government and tribal organizations, and school districts in Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, and Whatcom counties, and the city of Bellevue.

NOHN received $25,000 for portable dental equipment needed to expand its Mobile Health Clinic services to include school-based, on-site preventive dental care for Clallam County youth. Specifically, the grant funds will go toward the purchase of an x-ray machine, aseptic dental chair, dental sterilizer/autoclave, dental cart, and related instruments and supplies.

“Thanks to the generous grant from First Fed Foundation and the standing partnerships we have with the Port Angeles School District and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, our Mobile Health Clinic is well positioned to offer greater access to dental screenings for the youth in our community,” said NOHN CEO Michael Maxwell, MD. “School-based screenings provide an opportunity to reach all students, regardless of family income, insurance status, or access to healthcare or transportation.”

The primary goal of this planned service expansion is to identify potential oral health issues early and prompt parents or caregivers to seek treatment, if necessary, thus mitigating the risk of advanced conditions and improving overall oral health.
